Although this is my dogs second “Indestructible Ball”, after the first one was destroyed, I cannot recommend this dog toy enough. My dog could destroy a regular ball in seconds where the indestructible ball took years.

As you can see in the attached picture, Alexia had half-eaten the first “Indestructible Ball”. It took her several years to do it but none the less she did accomplish her goal.

The problem is that she loves that ball more than life itself so what do you think was the first thing we did after she ate the first ball? We went out and bought another one.

One of the key benefits of the ball is that it helps with Alexia’s hips. Unfortunately Alexia has hip displesia and the ball really seems to help. Another great benefit is the exercise she gets with it. She has become a very impressive soccer player over the years and loves to play keep away with the ball. I played soccer for ten years in my younger days and she still makes it hard from me to keep the ball away from her.

Now the key benefit of the indestructible ball is that it keeps her from eating everything else in the yard. She still occasionally chews on some of the kids toys but it is not nearly as bad as a problem as it could be. Most of the time the focus is on “her ball” and the kids toys are spared.

You’re probably thinking that the ball is pretty expensive but fortunately the price is really reasonable. I really like how this ball does not cost an arm and a leg to get (actually I like anything that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to get). Amazon.com carries it for around $10 so it really is a cheap investment. Even if Alexia goes through another one of these, which I doubt, it is still worth the money spent.

If you want to view the latest details, prices and reviews on the ball you can do so if you click here.

Pitbulls by nature, are the most effective and experienced fighting dogs ever produced. Pit bulls fight longer, more effectively, and better than any other animal.

Pitbulls often are very aggressive towards other animals. This is something that can be socialized out of the k-9 if you raise them from a puppy.

The term “Gameness” is often used when referring to Pitbulls. Gameness as an attribute means never backing down, fighting to the death even with missing limbs and eyes, and always wanting to contest with another animal.

Pitbulls also possess a staggeringly high thresh-hold for pain, this coupled with their tenacity help make them the ultimate warrior.

Pitbulls have the strongest bite-grip of ALL K-9’s. Their jaws are powerful enough to break bones, and bite deeply into the bone through the muscle. This in its self is very unique in the K-9

kingdom because most dog breeds can’t even bite deep into the muscle of their prey or opponent.

The Pit Bull is a highly athletic breed as well; it is possible for the dog to vertically get over an 8ft. fence won’t be a problem if the dog sees something he wants on the other side.

There are two things that make Pitbulls dangerous dogs…

1. Ignorance

2. Bad owners.

Any animal that possesses the determination, gameness, and brute strength that this k-9 breed does, needs an intelligent, attentive, and loving owner to focus these attributes in productive ways.

Pitbulls are not born killers. They can be trained to be very effective fighters, just as they can be raised to be very loving companions.

So are Pitbulls dangerous?

I guess the true answer lies in how you will raise yours.

There are many reasons your Pit Bull may bark at night. But whatever the reason, any owner who has to deal with this just wants to find a way to stop it from happening. They probably are awakened not only by their barking Pit Bull, but by their complaining neighbors as well. The owner, in the midst of all this, just wants to go back to bed and get some sleep. There have been many tried and true solutions to this problem, and no one solution may work for every Pit Bull.

One thing that has been known to contribute to excessive barking at night is a lack of exercise. Your Pit Bull has a high energy level, and needs to exercise everyday to release pent up energy. Without adequate exercise, he has no release for the pent up energy, and thus tries to relieve it by barking. Getting ten or fifteen minutes of extra exercise a day can considerably help with the barking problem.

Another thing that could lead your Pit Bull to bark is lack of attention during the day. Pit Bulls have a high need for their owners love and attention, and if you are away at work all day and busy at night, then he probably isn€™t getting the attention he needs. Setting aside a few minutes each day just for your Pit Bull may help curb the barking at night. Another thing that may also help is moving his bed into your room, so that he feels close to you.

If you think that boredom is the contributing factor, try to provide your Pit Bull with a variety of toys, so that he can amuse himself. By combining exercise, attention from you, and a good toy selection, you may be able to lessen if not stop his barking altogether.

Ensuring that all of your Pit Bull€™s needs are met should stop the barking problem, unless it is a behavioral problem. Giving him lots of love and attention, plenty of exercise, and toys to amuse himself with will often solve a lot of common problems. If you have a hectic lifestyle, you should devote some time each day to just being with and playing with your Pit Bull. If at anytime you are unable to provide your Pit Bull with the attention he needs, you should find a way to fit him into your schedule or give him to someone who can.

Ultimately, it is up to you to train your Pit Bull appropriate behavior. To curb your Pit Bull€™s barking, you first have to figure out what is causing him to bark, then figure out how to stop him from doing it.

Does your lifestyle fit the American Pit Bull Terrier lifestyle?

These dogs are packed with energy from head to toe. Craving a good run like a champion athlete. Exercise is critical to a heathy, happy bulldog. High energy is their middle name and is a large part of their personalities. Play, work, and activity is something you must be able to give these dogs

If you’re a couch potato you should find another breed to live with.

American Pit Bull Terriers are the Houdini’s of the canine world. Able to leap tall fences with a single bound, dig under them with amazing speed and stealth, and unlock gates that people would have trouble with.

You can’t leave them alone for long outside because one of two things may happen:

People will dislike you for your choice. Some may even try to kill your dog. Others will direct comments at you, vulgar, hateful comments, and friends and family may also be in conflict with your choice.

The other lasts forever. Real training is life long training that starts when the puppy arrives at your home and ends with death.

Unless you’re prepared to work with your dog 5-10-15 minutes per day, everyday, all week, every week, all year, every year, you may want to rethink your decision to get a Pit Bulldog. Actually, if you’re not prepared to train your dog, you should rethink getting any dog. Training is a fact of life and must be done in order to prevent a lot of trouble down the road.

If you can not control your dog, you don’t need one.

Can you afford them?

Dog food, vet bills, training, leashes and collars, and dog houses all cost money. Money you may not have right now. A quality dog food can cost as much as $800 per year. Do you have this kind of extra money to spend on food? If not, wait until you do before you bring home that puppy.

Do you want a American Pit Bull Terrier to impress people?

If this is the case, stop! Do not, repeat, do not bring one home. You’re doing yourself and the dog a great injustice.

American Pit Bull Terriers are in demand because of their all around strength, agility, great looks, and mystic. Breeders are pumping puppies out like unleaded gasoline. Puppies are being neglected and bad breeding practices are producing unstable dogs. Beware before you make any final decisions.

If I may point you in a different direction. Every day there are thousands of great bulldogs put down because no one will adopt them or they are deemed “unadoptable” by shelters.

Consider a Rescue Dog.

People who love this breed have created rescues for these dogs and hundreds of dogs are available for adoption.

Rescues are a win-win-win way to go. You give a dog that would otherwise not have a home, a home. You give your money (which in most cases is a small adoption fee) to the rescue so they can continue their work, and you get an awesome dog that will 9 times out of 10 deliver more than any pure-bred dog could on their best day.

In closing, before you run out and buy a American Pit Bull Terrier, think about your options, make sure you have what it takes to provide and care for the dog, and take your time to find a dog that matches your desires.

Flea and Tick Preventives €“ There are some nasty little bugs in the outdoors. Having your dog up on their shots and bringing along some flea and tick repellents will help keep those nasty critters down to a minimum.

Every once in a while check your dog over for ticks. I always check their ears first then under the base of the tail and the rest of them from that point on.

From time to time I give them a little squirt as well. You might not like the smell of garlic, but it will help keep the fleas and ticks off your dog and it€™s all natural.

You might want to use some on yourself as well. Yes, you will smell, but I€™d rather smell like I had eaten a huge Italian dinner than to find a little critter in a not so nice space when I get home to shower. Of course that€™s just me. :o)

Make sure your dog is shape for the activity €“ Older pets should be monitored and given plenty of chances to rest during your outdoor adventure.

Taking frequent breaks and given your dog a chance to rest will help prevent any possible heat exhaustion problems from occurring in the first place.

Have them on lead €“ I can€™t stress this one enough. Even if your dog obeys voice commands near perfect you should still restrain your dog for safety reasons.

Especially if you are walking in areas with cliffs or drop offs. You never know when your dog might take off after a critter and end up in a serious situation before you have time to recall them.

A 30€™ lead will give your dog plenty of freedom and you can rest assured they are safe and under your control at all times.

Some parting tips €“ Make sure your dog is wearing their collar with ID tags. This way in case of some weird accident and your dog gets away from you they can be identified.

Collars can come off as well so having your dogs micro chipped is another way of ensuring they can be identified and returned to you in case they get away some how. This is a good idea even if you aren€™t going on an outdoor trip.

Consult your vet before you take your trip and have your vet do a check up on your dog to ensure they are in shape and ready for your outdoor adventure.

Have a safe and exciting adventure with your Pit Bull!

Once you become the owner of a Pit Bull puppy, you will also acquire many new responsibilities as well. One thing that all new owners should do is crate train their puppies. Crate training can be very beneficial to both owner and puppy when done correctly. Crate training will make your first few weeks as a dog owner much easier and more enjoyable.

By crate training your new Pit Bull puppy, not only will you have a house-broken puppy in less time, your puppy will have its own space during that time, which will make it feel much more safe and secure. Crate training has been proven to help ease the puppy€™s transition to its new home, prevents the puppy from chewing up your belongings, and can help protect the puppy from many dangers that exist in the home. Puppies are naturally curious about their new space, and can easily come into contact with things that could harm them in the home.

Before you take your new puppy home, you will need to obtain your crate. Crates are fairly inexpensive and can be bought at most local pet supply stores. Some pet owners who do crate training also choose to make the crate rather than buy it, either option works the same. Whether you purchase or make your own crate, there are certain features it should have. Crates made of wire tend to work best, but the important thing is to make sure it can be divided into sections, so you can adjust it to the size of your Pit Bull puppy. It tends to work best if you buy a large crate and just section it off so that you won€™t have to constantly buy larger crates as your dog grows. It is also beneficial to have a removable tray on the bottom of the crate to make it easier to clean. The most popular crates come with trays that slide out, which can be a real time saver, especially for breeders that may have more than one puppy.

Once you have obtained your crate, bring your new puppy home and introduce him to it. The puppy will need to learn about his new space. As with training any animal, it is important to be consistent. It is also very important to never use the crate to punish your dog, as it will have a negative impact on your training. The puppy should feel at ease in its crate. Your time and effort will soon payoff, making you and your puppy both happy in the end.

American Pit Bull Terriers or anything that remotely resembles a €œPit Bull€ are among the most commonly listed breeds in BSL proposals.

Even more horrible is that fact these laws do not even take into consideration the individual dog€™s history but instead lumps them all together under one classification.

In most cases this means they are labeled as dangerous. Ultimately forcing the well behaved dogs to be seen and classified along with the dogs that have in fact bitten or attacked someone.

In short, if you have a highly decorated Search and Rescue Pit Bull your dog is seen as deadly as the dog that has been drugged up, abused, and forced to attack.

Breed specific legislation is nothing more then a band-aid law makers have placed over a massive head wound. What I find ironic is they truly feel these laws are going to help the public deal with the Pit Bull dilemma.

When in fact, nothing could be further from the truth and the public is mislead by thinking that if Pit Bulls are banned or restricted this is going to somehow stop irresponsible owners from allowing their dogs to continue to create havoc in the streets.

What will it take before people realize these laws are completely useless and enacting them only serves to tie the responsible owner€™s hands behind their backs?

Not to mention it creates the public image their dogs are dangerous and potentially vicious. This creates further problems for the owners because their neighbors become afraid and call for their removal from the neighborhood.

Some might think this is a paranoid outlook on the situation. Tell that to the woman whose Bull Terrier was set on fire in Germany soon after the country enacted its breed specific legislation.

Will you sit back and let this happen?

Even if you do not share your life with the American Pit Bull Terrier or a dog on these breed specific lists, it is your duty as a dog owner to do something about it.

Knowing exactly which dog food to buy for your Pit Bull terrier can be confusing. There are countless options available when you go to the store and many of them are very unhealthy choices. Dog food is offered in packets, cans, or large bags. Dog foods that are mass prepared can be high in quality and well balanced, it is important that you buy the best you can afford. Most of the larger dog food companies maintain testing laboratories that check for quality and nutritional value.

Basically, there are three different types of dog food.

1. Dry food
2. Semi moist food
3. Canned food.

Dry foods are made up of roughly ten percent water. The raw ingredients used to make dry dog food differs greatly from brand to brand, so stick with a higher quality food.

These dry foods are generally less expensive when compared to semi-moist and canned foods. This is beneficial if you own several dogs or have one that eats more than the typical canine. You can also purchase dry dog food in bulk quantities and store them for several weeks. Storing dry dog foods for too long may reduce the nutritional value of it however.

Semi-moist foods contain more water than dry foods, typically in the range of 25%. Semi moist dog food is usually offered in the form of chunks of meat or simulated hamburger. Given the choice, most dogs prefer semi moist foods over dry foods, however these foods aren€™t as good for a dog€™s dental health.

Canned foods are the most popular choice of dog food and it is available in two different forms. The first kind of canned food has a cereal component, making it a complete diet. The second type has a meat only component that doesn€™t give the dog a very balanced diet unless something like a dog biscuit is given in addition to the bowl of food.

No matter what you choose to feed your dog, be sure to follow the feeding instructions on the packaging as they differ greatly. Don€™t overfeed your Pit Bull by feeding him extra large portions or extra meals throughout the day and be sure to get your dog out for his daily walk.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier presents an incredible mix of intelligence, courage, and tenacity tempered with a sweet affection for it€™s family. As a breed, it is often shrouded in myth and misconception about it€™s history and origin. Read on to learn the truth about where the Staffordshire Bull Terrier came from and what the difference is between this breed and others similar in name and appearance.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or €œStaffie€, as fans of the breed call it, dates back to Elizabethan England when an ancestor of the Bulldog was used in a bloody sport called bullbaiting (also bearbaiting). This dog was closely linked to the Mastiff and weighed in at between 100 and 120 pounds.

Around the 19th century, when bullbaiting was outlawed, dog fighting quickly gained popularity and the massive bullbaiting dogs were crossed with smaller terriers and a smaller, quicker breed of dog was born, weighing about 60 pounds. This dog became known as a €œBulldog Terrier€ or €œBull and Terrier€ and was further refined by outcrosses to an ancestor of the Manchester Terrier. This produced a dog of about 30-45 pounds that came to be known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which is the father breed out of which came the English Bull Terrier (1860), and later, when exported to North America around 1880, the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier.

The American Staffordshire Terrier, and the American Pit Bull Terrier appear very similar to each other and people often hotly debate whether or not they are separate breeds. To clear things up a bit, the American Pit Bull Terrier was first recognized by the UKC and later by the AKC. However, when the American Pit Bull Terrier was entered into the AKC registry, the name was changed to American Staffordshire Terrier, as noted by the AKC on their website, www.akc.org, €œAs the breed moved to America the names Pitdog and Pitbull Terrier stuck. However, American breeders wanted an animal heavier than the British breed, hence the name American Staffordshire Terrier. This is the breed commonly referred to as Pit Bull.€

Although certain breeders have pursued slightly different goals with the American Staffordshire Terrier, often referred to as the AmStaff, and the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), the two remain virtually indistinguishable and a single dog could conceivably be simultaneously registered as both an AmStaff with the AKC and as an APBT with the UKC.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, however, is a distinct breed. It€™s official, AKC standard states that the Staffie stands at 14-16 inches; male dogs weigh 28-38 pounds and females weigh 24-34 pounds. This is in contrast to the AmStaff which has no such size or weight limit. The Staffie€™s color is also restricted allowing red, fawn, white, black, blue, or brindle or any of these colors with white and disqualifying black-and-tan and liver color.. AmStaffs can be any color except white (80% or more).

Described by the AKC as a, €œformost all-purpose dog€, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier can be an intelligent and affectionate family dog and a courageous and tenacious protector. An all around good dog with a rich history!

Pit Bulls tend to be very curious about their surroundings, and if you haven€™t already done so, you should dog proof your house to help keep him safe. There are many everyday household items that can be potentially deadly to your Pit Bull, things you may not even think about. This article will help you learn about a few of the most often overlooked items, so that you can better protect your Pit Bull€™s health.

Antifreeze is responsible for many pet deaths each year. It is extremely important to keep antifreeze or any containers that have been contaminated with antifreeze out of your Pit Bull€™s reach. You should be especially on alert if you own a garage or have one near your house, as there is often antifreeze easily within your Pit Bull€™s reach. Animals will eat antifreeze because it tastes and smells sweet, therefore proving a temptation that many are unable to resist. You should be familiar with the symptoms of antifreeze poisoning, and if you see them, or suspect antifreeze poisoning get your Pit Bull to the veterinarian immediately. Common symptoms: fatigue, seizures, nausea, if left untreated can lead to kidney failure.

Bleach is another common household item that is dangerous to your Pit Bull. Keep anything that contains bleach out of your Pit Bull€™s reach. If you think your Pit Bull is suffering from bleach poisoning, take him to the veterinarian immediately. Signs of possible bleach poisoning include: nausea and vomiting, excessive drooling, and stomach pain.

Chocolate can also be dangerous for your Pit Bull to consume. It contains bromine, which can be very toxic for dogs. Bromine is found in higher levels in baking chocolate and dark chocolate, but can be found in all kinds of chocolate. Usually, your Pit Bull would have to eat a lot of chocolate for it to kill him, but there is no set safe amount. You can recognize possible chocolate toxicity in your Pit Bull if you know what to look for. Common symptoms may include diarrhea, frenzied excitement, increased urination, and vomiting.

Tylenol is a common sense item to keep away from your Pit Bull. Two regular strength Tylenol caplets contain enough acetaminophen to kill a small dog. Your Pit Bull€™s liver can€™t break acetaminophen down quickly enough, eventually causing death. As with the other substances previously mentioned, if you think your Pit Bull might be suffering from Tylenol poisoning, call your veterinarian immediately.

If by some chance your Pit Bull were to swallow a watch battery, he could possibly die in as little as twelve hours. Watch batteries in particular can cause stomach ulcerations and fatal bleeding. Any alkaline battery can be extremely dangerous to your Pit Bull.

Fabric softener is commonly found in most households, and is probably one of the most toxic to your Pit Bull. A Pit Bull that ingests fabric softener may vomit, drool excessively, suffer from muscle weakness and fatigue, and may even slip into a coma. Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible for treatment.

Many plants that you have in your home can be very dangerous for your Pit Bull if he decides to take a bite. Poinsettias, ferns and lilies are especially toxic. Many plants can be fatal to your Pit Bull if he eats them. If you think your Pit Bull may have eaten one of your houseplants, even if it is one not listed here, contact your veterinarian to be safe.

You can protect your Pit Bull by trying to keep any potentially toxic substance out of his reach, and by educating everyone in your household to do the same. Your veterinarian can help with further information on commonly toxic things and the dangers of them. In the event your Pit Bull may have had contact with a poisonous substance, contacting your veterinarian immediately may help save his life.

Tip #1: K9 to 5. Work is a must.

By work I mean something your Pit Bull must do in order to shed excess energy. A job is not only a great way to exercise your dog, it’s also a great way to curb behavior problems.

How does this curb behavior problems?

From my own research and experience I can tell you with 100% confidence that 95% of all behavior problems are caused by lack of stimulation.

In short, your big lovable Pit Bull is out and out bored stupid.

A bored dog will start to exhibit negative behaviors in order to relieve this excess stress caused by being bored.

Your task, give your dog something to do. Herding, agility, obedience, weight pulling, tracking, any of these would be a great job for your Pit Bull.

Did I just say to stop loving your Pit Bull?

Not at all, what I mean is, there is a time for love and a time for your dog to be a dog.

When asked why Rover is jumping I respond by asking how much do you spoil Rover?

9 times out of 10 I get a list of things from all day, to oh he’s just like my baby, to he loves to lie on the couch for 20 hours a day!

Read that last one. There’s the answer to Rover’s jumping problem.

He’s giving too much love.

It’s possible and it happens all the time.

Pit Bulls are Pit Bulls not children or people. They need structure and leadership. Not over-bearing you are so cute I just want to squeeze your cheeks until you pop, attention. Your task is to give them less attention and more of what they really need. Structure and leadership.

Again, I’m not saying you shouldn’t love your dog or spoil them. But there has to be a limit to how much you give them both.

Tip #3: Do you walk or do you stroll?

A stroll is a short, light walk around the block or up to the local store for a soda and some bubble gum.

A walk is 2-12 miles of exercise that every single Pit Bull must have every single day in order to thrive.

What? 2 miles! Are you crazy?

Dogs, by nature (you know that funny lady Mother Nature has her quirks) are roaming animals.

Watch wild dogs, they run for miles upon miles, they hunt by out lasting their prey through stamina.

Pit Bulls while domesticated are much the same. They need long walks everyday in order to really get rid of that super energy they are known for.

Your task is to add 1-2 miles to your walk over the next 7-10 days.

In summary

Without work, structure and exercise, Pit Bulls will turn the stress resulting from the lack of these critical canine needs into negative, annoying behaviors.

I have never, not once seen a Pit Bull with a job that gets plenty of exercise jump on guests, bark all day long, or chew the couch into 10,000 little chunks.

Why?

Work gives them mental and physical stimulation and releases stress. Structure gives them security and safety from the €œwild€ things out there in the world. Exercise gives fulfills their instincts to roam and investigate the world around them.

After you have given your dog these three things, then give them the love and attention they deserve.

If you think I’m crazy, that your dog gets plenty of exercise and that’s not the reason they misbehave, try it out for yourself. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the results.

What are you waiting for?

Go for it!

In this article, we’re going to go over a very basic dog training command known as “Off” or “Down”. If you have a Pit Bull that loves to jump up on company and doesn’t know the meaning of “Down”, this article is for you. “Off” or “Down” simply tells your dog “do not touch”.

The “Off” command is usually used to command your dog not to jump up on house guests or even yourself. Everyone has experienced the unruly dog who jumps up and makes a mess of your outfit when you try to pet him.

Situations like this are what you’re going to be teaching your dog not to do with the “Off” command. You may begin this dog behavior training practice by showing your dog a treat and then watching as he jumps up to grab it. At this point, you’ll simply give him the “Off” command in a firm voice. If your Pit doesn’t listen, simply lift one knee towards your chest and he’ll comply. The purpose of this isn’t to knee your Pit in the face, you simply want to bump him in the chest and it will drop him back down to all fours.

As soon as your Pit Bull has all fours on the ground again, praise him excitedly. Doing so will reward him and show him that his actions were appreciated. Using positive reinforcement for dog training is the most effective means available for teaching your dog right and wrong.

Now, that is the basic way that you’ll teach your Pit Bull terrier the “Off” or “Down” command, the key now is repetition. You need to practice this over and over and over again.

You can begin anticipating his jumping up as well. If you notice that he’s getting ready for liftoff, simply give him the “Off” command. There is no need to wait€¦

In time, your Pit Bull will restrain from ever jumping up on others and as you can see, the entire training process is really very simple. Enjoy!

There are certain rules that you should follow every single time you work on training your Pit Bull Terrier. One of these things is making sure that you are training him in an area where there aren’t lots of distractions. Distractions can be an important tool used for training your Pit Bull Terrier, however it is important to get the basics down before doing so.

When your dog has mastered the basic commands that you’ve taught him and is excelling in his obedience training exercises without distractions, it is at this point that you can begin introducing outside distractions to challenge him more. Doing this is a great dog training strategy that will teach him to follow your commands even when there are other things going on around him.

Your ultimate goal is to have your Pit Bull obey your commands regardless of location or environment. As your dog progresses in his training, you’ll be able to give him a command in the middle of a crowded area and he’ll obey you. This is an important thing for not only his safety, but the safety of other people and animals as well. Having a well-trained dog can eliminate many of the horror stories you hear related to owning a dog.

You should also learn to prevent your dog’s mistakes by learning what makes him falter. For example, if you’ve given the sit stay command to your Pit and he starts to get up, correct him immediately so he learns. You’ll definitely know when he is getting ready to break the command by the signs he gives. He may bite or lick his paw, act uneasy and figity, etc. Whatever your dog does when his attention is beginning to stray, recognize it and work on regaining his attention.

The most troublesome and boring aspect of owning a pet pit bull according to most owners is training. Though boring, early obedience training for pit bulls is very essential, otherwise they may become disobedient and even aggressive. A poorly bred pit bull is often a danger to the people around it. Also, it is necessary to teach housebreaking to a pit bull when it is still a puppy. The first thing that a pit bull needs to be trained in is housebreaking. Pit bull puppies have weak bladders, which they may need to eliminate almost every hour. Have specific meal times for the puppy and then take it out. Over time, puppies will begin to recognize this place by its smell. It’s no fun to be woken in the middle of a night by a puppy whining to go potty, but it takes endurance in the first few months. As pit bulls grow older, their bladder control improves, but it will be a while before they can hold their bladders overnight. Another method is paper training, where newspaper can be spread at spots within the house. However, paper training is not good as it gives the pit bull the idea that it is okay to poop inside the house.

Pitbulls are athletic dogs and so they need stamina and strength training. The most common way to teach almost all dogs is by drive and tracking. A ball and string can be used for this. Show the ball to the pit bull until its curiosity is aroused and then roll the ball on the floor, away from the pit bull. The pit bull will begin chasing after it. Using this tactic, several tricks can be taught to the pit bull. Pit bulls are intelligent dogs. They respond to commands. Pit bulls can be trained to understand commands such as ‘go’, ‘fetch’, ‘heel’ and they also recall to their names. Repeating the commands over and over helps the dog to learn faster. Such obedience training must not be taken lightly as it may sometimes be a lifesaver to the dog.

Training a dog requires patience and affection on the part of the trainer. Pit bulls are sensitive and they should never be hit or yelled at when training. This may have an adverse effect and they may not respond to training at all. They may also fight back and nip or bite people. A slight reprimand, with a strong ‘No’ is enough to make a pit bull stop any undesirable activity. It is important to be consistent in pit bull training. If you train a pit bull for a couple of days and then decide to take a break, then the whole thing is going to be a worthless affair. However, there are many ways in which pit bull training can be made exciting to both dog and owner. The training also provides some exercise to the owner and goes a long way in making the dog a trustworthy and able companion.

Pit bull puppies are adorable like any other puppy and are in great demand for adoption. These puppies may be of a variety of colors-black, white, beige, grey, even the rarer merle and silver and fetch a high price in the market. Puppies with red noses are also in great demand. Most often, pit bulls are bred to produce puppies with qualities that may be desired.

It is advisable to adopt a pit bull in the puppy stage, as it then grows up with you. As a result, it ends up being more loyal as you may be its only master. Pit bulls may have their particular traits, which define their breed, but a puppy can be trained so that negative traits like aggression may be subdued. A pit bull that has been at your home since it was a puppy is more a part of your home.

Training is an important issue when it comes to pit bull puppies and it takes a lot of effort, but consistent and affectionate training will succeed. Pit bull puppies are known to have weak bladders and the initial few months will require it to be taken out every hour.

Training a pit bull puppy can be fun. Driving and tracking can be entertaining for both pit bull as well as the owner. More importantly, working together with the puppy on training creates a stronger bond. This doesn’t happen when training an adult pit bull. Pit bull puppies can be made to respond to verbal commands like ‘go’, ‘fetch’, ‘heel’ etc. They can be made to recall to their names. Here again there is an advantage over adults as you can teach puppy your own language and give a name of your own.

However, there are problems with puppies also. One is the difficulty in housebreaking. The teething period is another. Pit bulls puppies will chew anything, even hands and legs, so better keep kids out of reach of teething pit bull puppies. Pit bull puppies are also moody during this period and are more difficult to train.

When you adopt a pit bull puppy, you do not know what it will turn out to be. It has not yet developed its personal traits. But with proper training and lots of love, pit bull puppies can be made into good dogs.

Deciding to add a Pit Bull terrier to the family is a big step. You should have already done research on the breed to learn the characteristics that Pits possess, and you should have also decided on a male of female. Once you’ve tackled those hurdles, it is time for the next step€¦ finding the perfect puppy for your family. The best way that I would suggest for finding great puppies is to check with your local American Pit Bull Terrier club. Get in touch with the club’s president and find out when the club meets. Attend a meeting, get to know some of the members, and begin asking around for breeder recommendations.

Alternatively, you can buy dog magazines and go through the breeder listings contained in the resources section. Take some time to call the breeders who you are interested in possibly working with, and spend a brief while on the telephone with them. Ask them questions such as: - How long have you been actively breeding Pit Bulls?

- How long have you been involved with the breed? - How many litters per year do you have?

- Where are your puppies kept? - Are your puppies socialized?

- Etc. You can also contact your veterinarian and ask them for a referral. A vet will typically know the health of a breeder’s lines, so they can be a great source of inside info.

You most certainly want to stay away from pet shops and puppy mills. In most cases, these sources obtain their puppies from a variety of places and it is nearly impossible to know if they come from healthy bloodlines or not. Also, these shops often charge large amounts of money for their dogs and prey on the uneducated, spur-of-the-moment dog buyer.. Lastly, be sure not to buy a puppy from the first breeder you meet and don’t buy the first puppy that you see. All puppies are cute. Spend time with many puppies so you can see the differences in their personalities and you’ll make a more educated choice I assure you.
